“Crewel
Embroidery”
This class
is designed to introduce
basic techniques of crewel embroidery
and
will be based on the teaching techniques of Phillipa Turnbull known for her
exquisite English designs. The class project will be chosen from one of
Phillipa’s kits featuring Appleton Crewel wool and custom made Scottish

"Russian
Punchneedle Embroidery"
Tired of counting those intricate cross stitch designs? Knitted all the
scarves you need, but still want to “express” yourself? Then it’s time to
try the hottest thing in needlework~~punchneedle embroidery! It’s quick and
fun to learn! It’s portable and affordable! Our 2 hour class will provide
you with everything you need to get started. Cost $35
"Challenging the Hand Painted Canvas"
Don’t let the
fear of a painted canvas stop you from creating an original piece. Each
student will select a handpainted canvas to be stitched. Thread selections
and decorative stitches will be introduced as part of a group experience.
Basic needlepoint experience is required including continental and
basketweave stitch. Class cost is based on the actual price of canvas and
threads purchased and may include more than one session.
“Beginning Bargello”
This class is the
perfect introduction to needlepoint based on a counted technique. Students
will learn how to work from a graph, compensate stitches, lay threads, and
work on a frame. The project is a “mini” Christmas stocking and is stitched
with Watercolours (a hand-dyed pearl cotton) and Rachellete (a nylon-filled
fiber). Level: Beginners

“Japanese Temari”
Learn the
craft of these Japanese stitched balls and enjoy their beauty as
enhancements to your home decor. No prior stitching experience is
required. The Beginners Class features the “Spindles” design or “The
Friendship Chain”. Both are excellent learning patterns. The class runs
approximately 3 1/2 hours. It teaches all the basics required for simple
division patterns. All the materials are included to complete your first
ball.
A
series of 1 to 2 hour classes is also available introducing additional
designs and techniques. Students will bring their own wrapped and marked
ball to each session. Design threads may be included in certain sessions
and class cost will be determined accordingly.

“KOMAS”
The Koma is an ornament based on a
Japanese child’s toy (spinning top) and its creation is based on a woven
technique. Also known locally as “Dragon Boats”, the Koma has limitless
color combinations and can be adapted for holiday or year-round use. Great
project for children!
Cost:
$25 for Adults; $15 for ages 16 and under (Special rates available for teen
& youth clubs/groups)
“Swedish” Huck
Weaving
Huck “Swedish”
weaving is a great introduction to needlework. Threads are woven under
“floats” on a special fabric to create colorful designs with completed
projects ranging from decorative hand towels to pillows, table runners &
more! Instruction is available for both adults and children. Our adult
class features a decorative “Holiday” guest towel. Our youth
class features a quick design with “charm” suitable for framing. Class
instructions will prepare the student to begin and modify other projects on
their own.

$25 for adults; $15 for ages 16 and under (Special rates available for teen
& youth groups)
“Beginning Needlepoint” for Adults
Learn the
basics of needlepoint working from a charted design by Anna Pearson
(previously taught at Woodlawn Plantation). The project is a monochromatic
pillow using Appleton Crewel Wool with optional color selections. A perfect
class for first-time stitcher’s or cross stitcher’s looking for a change!
Instruction Time: 4 one-hour sessions or 2 two-hour sessions
